Frequently Asked Questions about Participating in the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band

A: During the fall semester, the marching band rehearses five times a week from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and we hold Gameday Rehearsals in the morning of home games for approximately an hour and a half. Students rarely drop marching band because of time problems. Our students see marching band as their time to get outside and take a break from the lecture halls and labs, play great music, and be among close friends.

A: We play at all home football games and usually take the full band to at least one away game each year. The band also performs at the post-season bowl games and we often perform at regional marching band exhibitions/competitions.

A: Visit the MILLION DOLLAR BAND section of the website! All positions (wind, percussion, colorguard and Crimsonette) are based on auditions, and all new members must provide a Letter of Recommendation from your current band director. During the first two days of Fall Camp, members are evaluated on their marching and movement skills, which will be a factor in determining our final Pre-game roster. Percussion students will attend a late spring camp where much of the audition process will be completed.  Both our Colorguard and Crimsonettes hold auditions in the late spring and students selected for those groups are notified immediately following the conclusion of their auditions.

A: All students auditioning for membership should register for Marching Band, MUA 153/253/353/453 based on your grade level in school and your section (i.e. winds/percussion, colorguard or majorette. Marching Band is a graded and credited class and each member MUST register for the class in order to participate in the band.

A: The University covers all travel costs related to participation in the marching band, including providing all hotel costs and food costs while on band trips. The University also provides MDB members with their uniform. Students will be charged a class fee which will vary from year to year. These fees are attached to student tuition accounts and will be charged when students register for the marching band class.
