2021-2022 Million Dollar Band Auditions


2021 MDB Wind Player Remote Auditions

    • Audition Registration – Registration is now closed
      • To register, you must have been accepted to The University of Alabama and received your CWID and address. Please check your crimson email account regularly as we will exclusively use your email for all communications.
      • All wind player auditions will be conducted via Zoom teleconferencing.
        • When you register, you will be sent a link to our scheduling website to select an audition time.
          • All times will be in Central Standard Time.
          • If there is an emergency that will prevent you from auditioning when you are scheduled, please contact David Potter at
          • If you miss your audition day/time and don’t contact us prior, you will not be given another opportunity unless extenuating circumstances exist.
      • We must have a recommendation on file for you prior to your audition.
        • Your band director will be sent a link when you complete your registration
      • Registration does not guarantee membership or the opportunity to audition.  You must complete the entire process (Registration, director recommendation, and audition) by the final audition date, April 17, 2021.
    • Auditions will be held online via Zoom teleconferencing
      • You must confirm your meeting invitation to reserve your time.
      • You can access Zoom via a phone or computer

        • Click the Zoom Meeting Link you were sent from the scheduling site
        • Join the meeting with computer audio and video
      • Applicants will play the prepared etudes for their instrument
          • Piccolo
            • Students will audition on piccolo; an audition on flute is permissible if they do not have access to a piccolo
          • Clarinet
          • Saxophone (ALTO and TENOR)
          • Trumpet
          • Mellophone
            • Students will audition on mellophone; an audition on horn is permissible if they do not have access to a mellophone
          • Trombone
          • Baritone
            • Students will audition on concert baritone/euphonium or marching baritone
          • Tuba – students will audition on concert tuba or sousaphone
      • A sight-reading excerpt will be shown on your screen during your Zoom audition session. You will have a limited time to look at it and then will be asked to perform it.  
    • Students will be notified by May 1, 2021 of their membership status in the 2021 Million Dollar Band.
      • Managers are full members of the band that do not march.  They are an integral part of the band that works closely with Million Dollar Band Staff to insure smooth operations throughout the Million Dollar Band Season.  These positions are open to anyone that was in their High School Band in any capacity.  If you are interested in applying, please fill out the APPLICATION.  Any other questions should be directed to our Coordinator of Band Operations, Mr. David Potter, at


All students who complete the Million Dollar Band audition process will be considered for Million Dollar Band scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate a high proficiency level on their audition and the instrumentation needs of the Million Dollar Band. There is NO separate audition to be considered for scholarship. Scholarships range from $500-$1,000 and will be awarded prior to the start of Fall classes.

After the last audition date (Percussion/Colorguard/Crimsonettes – Saturday, April 25, 2021), notifications will be emailed (UA issued Crimson email address) to ALL students who completed the Million Dollar Band audition process, notifying them of membership status and potential scholarship awards.


To become a member of The University of Alabama Million Dollar Band, students must have been accepted to The University of Alabama. Once you have been accepted, the University will assign you with a Campus Wide Identification number (CWID) along with a Crimson/UA email address. Additionally, students must meet the following requirements:

      • ALL potential Million Dollar Band members MUST audition prior to April 25, 2021. All new and returning students must audition for membership into the Million Dollard Band during the Spring semester.
      • Must register for the marching band class (MUA 153/253/353/453) BUT ONLY AFTER you have received notification that you passed the audition and have received membership into the Million Dollar Band (after April 25, 2021)Please be aware that these registration requirements will be verified prior to the first day of Fall Camp.
      • Must be working toward a degree as demonstrated by either:
        1. registering for at least twelve hours for the Fall semester at The University of Alabama
        2. registering for at least twelve hours for the Fall semester at Shelton State Community College while registered for MUA 153/253/353/453 as a part-time student at The University of Alabama
      • Potential returning members must be in good financial standing with University Bands and The University of Alabama, including taking care of all uniform fees, equipment fees, class fees or other charges incurred in prior membership
      • Must be selected for membership by audition
      • Must complete and have on record with University Bands Office, the 2021 MDB Medical Form (emailed to MDB roster after July 1, 2021). Please bring this completed form with you to Fall Camp Check-In. DO NOT MAIL IN YOUR MEDICAL FORMS!!!
