Mrs. Valerie Womack Morgan, Director of Bands
Simmons Middle School, Hoover, Alabama
Valerie Womack Morgan is currently in her fourth year as band director at Simmons Middle School in Hoover, Alabama. Previously, she has held positions in Georgia at Woodward Academy, Fayette Middle School and Babb Middle School. Her ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings in all evaluated festival events. Bands under Ms. Morgan’s direction have received invitations to perform at many clinics and conventions including the 2013 University of Alabama Middle School Honor Band Clinic, the 2012 University of Alabama at Birmingham Middle School Honor Band Clinic, 2010 Auburn University Middle School Band Clinic, the 2008 Georgia Music Educators Association In-service Conference, the 2006 Southeastern United States Middle School Band Clinic, the University of Georgia Middle School Music Festivals in 2008, 1998, and 1994, the 1996 Southeastern United States Band Clinic and the 1996 Atlanta International Band and Orchestra Conference. The Woodward Academy and Fayette Middle School Bands have won numerous sweepstakes and division awards at national and regional music festivals. In 1998, the Fayette Middle School Symphonic Band presented a concert in Carnegie Hall in New York. Mrs. Morgan received her Masters of Music Education degree from the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois and her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Troy University. She is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Alabama Music Educators Association, the Alabama Bandmasters Association, the National Band Association, and Phi Beta Mu. Mrs. Morgan has been a recipient of the National Band Association, “Citation of Excellence” on several occasions. Mrs. Morgan was a conductor for the Youth Concert Band of Atlanta, an auditioned group for young musicians in grades 7, 8, and 9. She has served in numerous leadership capacities at both the district and state levels for GMEA. Mrs. Morgan is active as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the southeastern United States. She is married to Harrison and they are the proud parents of Lily, who is 11, and Harrison, who is 7.
Crimson Middle School Ensemble
Mrs. Gretta Pote, Director of Bands
Clay Middle School, Carmel, Indiana
Gretta Pote is in her eighth year as Director of Bands at Clay Middle School where she directs the Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as well as Flute Choir and Pep Band. Prior to teaching in Carmel, Mrs. Pote was Director of Bands at Center Grove Middle School in Greenwood, Indiana where she served as Assistant Director of the Center Grove High School Marching Trojans, a consistent Bands of America Grand National Finalist and 1999 Indiana State Champion. Her teaching experience also includes positions of Director of Bands at Plainfield Community Middle School and at South Marshall Middle School. Mrs. Pote’s ensembles have consistently received gold ratings in state and regional festivals. She is active as an adjudicator and guest clinician across the Mid-west. Mrs. Pote received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. She lives in Carmel with her husband Michael and ten year old son Devin.
