The 2021 Crimson Festival of Winds has been cancelled.
The next Crimson Festival of Winds is scheduled for: April 25-27, 2022
The Crimson Festival of Winds is a non-competitive, educational festival designed to showcase the “best of the best” high school and middle school wind bands from across the state of Alabama. The second annual Crimson Festival of Winds will be held on Monday, April 27, Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in the Concert Hall of the Moody School of Music. High School ensembles participating in the Crimson Festival of Winds will be allotted 30 minutes of performance time, while Middle School/Junior High ensembles will be allotted 20 minutes of performance time. There is no required list for the Crimson Festival of Winds; however, it is expected that the invited ensembles would program music of exceptional educational merit suitable for an event of this caliber. There will be no ratings or scores given at the Crimson Festival of Winds- the atmosphere is one of support and encouragement for each ensemble. Immediately following each band’s performance, one of our outstanding evaluators will work with each ensemble for a 20 minute “hands on” clinic. Directors will receive recorded critique from the evaluators along with written comments and a professional recording of the concert. Concert bands earning an overall “superior” rating at an Alabama Bandmasters Association district level Music Performance Assessment in the spring of 2020 will receive an invitation to participate in the Crimson Festival of Winds. We will be able to accept the first 36 ensembles that apply. Make plans to be a part of this exciting new festival that promotes Alabama’s finest concert bands.
