Crimsonette Audition Information

  • APPLICATION LINK HERE
  • Pay the $45.00 Application Fee (No refunds will be given)
    • The last day to register for Crimsonettes is March 5, 2026 by midnight (central time).
  • To register, you must have been accepted to The University of Alabama and received your CWID and crimson.ua.edu email address.
  • Once you register, we will only use your @crimson.ua.edu email for all further communications.
  • Once you complete the application and pay your Application Fee, you will be sent a receipt and further instructions.
  • Band Director or Coach recommendations will be sent out on TBD. They will have two weeks to submit their forms.
    • A completed recommendation form from your Band Director is required before we will review your audition – this will be sent upon your completion of the MDB Audition Registration
  • Registration does not guarantee membership

Before you apply, you must be accepted to The University of Alabama.

Please note that the selection of the Crimsonette line is determined exclusively by a panel of independent judges. These judges operate separately from the Million Dollar Band and are engaged specifically for the purpose of providing an impartial, professional evaluation of all candidates. All decisions regarding selection are based on the judges’ scoring and assessments throughout the audition process. 

APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Application submission is due on MARCH 5th, 2026. 

Application will include: 

  • Headshot, resume, and two recommendation letters from either a coach/mentor, band director, and/or principal. 
  • Veteran Candidates will only need to submit ONE recommendation letter.

Upon receiving your application, candidates will receive an email confirmation.

ROUND ONE (VIRTUAL):

On MARCH 27th, 2026, candidates will receive an email with Round One information. 

Candidates submit video performances of (1) “Yea Alabama” and a (2) 60 second Dance/Twirl Routine. 

In the email, candidates will receive:

  • “Yea Alabama” Instructional Video
  • “Yea Alabama” Music File
  •  Link to submit your 60 second Dance/Twirl Routine & “Yea Alabama” videos.
  • Attire: Your choice of Dance Sports Bra (Any Color,) Dance Shorts/Spandex (Any Color,) Tights, and Jazz Shoes. 
  • Recording Requirements: 
  • Record in landscape/horizontal mode
  • Film in a quiet environment with no background noise.
  • Must have a clear, high-quality view of your full performance (head to toe visible at all times).
  • Good lighting is strongly encouraged.
  1. “Yea Alabama” Performance/Editing Requirements 
  • A video must be submitted of the candidate performing “Yea Alabama.” 
  • This video will follow the set routine of our Fight Song, “Yea Alabama.” 
  • The entire performance MUST be one, continuous take with NO EDITS.
  • State your name at the beginning of the video, and perform the routine to the “Yea Alabama” music file. 
  • Before submission, label the video as: “FIRSTNAMELASTNAME_YEAALABAMA”
  1. Dance/Twirl Routine Performance/Editing Requirements
  • Record a short introduction before your Dance/Twirl routine. Please state: Name (First and Last), Age, Hometown, One fun fact about yourself. (This intro may be a separate clip and can be placed before your routine in the final submission OR you may do the intro statement and routine in one continuous take.)
  • Candidates will perform a 60 second Dance/Twirl Routine with one baton. This is your moment to have fun, be expressive, and let your personality shine through your dance technique, musicality, and performance quality. Keep big baton tricks to a minimum for this round –  The judges want to see your confidence, your connection to the music and audience, and the polished, coordinated movement that reflects the Crimsonette style.
  • The performance must be one, continuous take with NO EDITS.
  • Before submission, label the video as: “FIRSTNAMELASTNAME_DANCEROUTINE”

Submission Period: MARCH 27th – APRIL 3RD 

  • Candidates will have ONE WEEK to submit the two videos (“Yea Alabama” and Dance/Twirl Routine.) 
  • These items are due on April 3rd at 11:59P.M. 
  • If your videos are not submitted promptly on April 3rd by 11:59P.M., your application will not be considered. 

Upon video submission, candidates will receive an email on APRIL 10th, 2026. The email will notify candidates following Round One results.

If selected for Round Two of auditions, candidates will be invited to audition in-person in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on April 24th and April 25th. (This is closed to the public.)

ROUND TWO (In-Person):

On April 10th, 2026, Round Two candidates will receive an email with Round Two audition information. 

  1. Interviews: Friday, April 24th, 2026
  • Candidates will report to Moody Music Hall at The University of Alabama for their interview. 
  • Interview times will be sent via email on April 10th, 2026. 
  • Interviews will take place between 2:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. 
  • Attire: Professional  
  1. Group Routine: Saturday, April 25th, 2026
  • Candidates will report to Coleman Coliseum at 7:00A.M. for check-In. 
  • 8:00 A.M. – Group Routine Instruction begins. Candidates will have 45 minutes – 1 hour to learn an on-the-spot group routine to be performed in groups of 2 or 3. 
  • Attire: Black Nike Sports Bra and Black Nike Spandex. 
  1. Individual Routine: Saturday, April 25th, 2026
  • Candidates will perform 2 minute, individual routines. 
  • Individual performances need to showcase your twirling abilities to music selection of your choice.
  • Attire: Personalized costume, tights, jazz shoes OR Black Nike Sports Bra and Black Nike Spandex, tights, jazz shoes.

Once individual routines are completed, all candidates will be dismissed from Coleman Coliseum. Following the judges deliberations, emails will be sent out to notify candidates of results.

Meet the Team Showcase:

A showcase of the 2026-2027 Crimsonette squad will take place the evening of Saturday, April 25th. This is closed to the public. Information regarding this showcase will be sent via email to the candidates who are invited back for Round Two Auditions on April 10th, 2026.

What are the commitments required of an Alabama Crimsonette?

Crimsonettes are required to attend a mini boot camp in June, fall band camp in August, and daily after-school practices from 3:30–5:30 to prepare for the season. They also commit to all Saturday game days and additional performances as needed, upholding the dedication expected of the line.

How do I become a University of Alabama Crimsonette?

To be considered for the Crimsonettes, candidates must submit an application during the annual online audition window. After the initial review, selected applicants will be invited to advance to Round Two, in person auditions. 

Round Two Auditions take place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Attendance at this round is required for consideration – candidates must complete the in-person audition to remain eligible for the team. If you are unable to attend the final round, you should not submit an audition application. See audition information for upcoming audition dates.

No, auditions are closed to the public. Showcase information will be sent via email to Round Two audition candidates.

Is prior competitive twirling experience required?

Competitive twirling is not mandatory, but strong technical skill and performance confidence are highly recommended.

How many Crimsonettes are selected each year?

Team size varies annually based on auditions and program needs.

Can high school seniors audition?

Yes, as long as you meet The University of Alabama’s admission requirements for fall enrollment, seniors may audition.

Can transfer students audition?

Yes, transfer students are eligible as long as they meet enrollment requirements for the fall term.

When do auditions open?

Auditions open during the annual online application window, typically in the Spring and announced by the Million Dollar Band and Crimsonette staff.

Are there specific skills I should include in my Individual Routine?

While not required, candidates are encouraged to showcase their highest-level of twirling skills, strong dance technique, and performance quality.

Are there specific skills I should include in my Dance/Twirl Routine?

While not required, candidates are encouraged to showcase their fun personality, connection to the music and audience, and use this as an opportunity to make the judges remember you! 

General Membership Requirements

To become a member of The University of Alabama Million Dollar Band, students must have been accepted to The University of Alabama. Once you have been accepted, the University will assign you a Campus Wide Identification Number (CWID) along with a Crimson/UA email address. Additionally, students must meet the following requirements:

  • All new and returning students must audition for membership into the Million Dollar Band during The University of Alabama Spring semester.
  • You must register for the marching band class (MUA 153/253/353/453) BUT ONLY AFTER you have received notification that you passed the audition and have received membership into the Million Dollar Band (after May 1, 2026)Please be aware that these registration requirements will be verified before the first day of Fall Camp.
  • Must be working toward a degree as demonstrated by either:
    1. registering for at least 12 hours for the Fall semester at The University of Alabama
    2. registering for at least 12 hours for the Fall semester at Shelton State Community College while registered for MUA 153/253/353/453 as a part-time student at The University of Alabama
  • Potential returning members must be in good financial standing with University Bands and The University of Alabama, including taking care of all uniform fees, equipment fees, class fees, or other charges incurred in prior membership
  • Must be selected for membership by audition
  • Must complete and have on record with the University Bands Office, the 2026 MDB Medical Form (emailed to MDB roster after July 1, 2026). Please bring this completed form with you to the Fall Camp Check-In.
